I have been working as a Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner® since 2001, and became certified as an Assistant Trainer of the Feldenkrais Method January 2010. I started FELDENKRAIS® Manitoba in 2004. I work primarily from my home, the location of Sunyata Movement Studio, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Prior to becoming a Feldenkrais® practitioner, I earned a degree in Medical Rehabilitation in Physiotherapy from the University of Manitoba in 1991. My professional passion is being part of people discovering and living their potential. In service of this intention, I also accepted a two year term to serve on FELDENKRAIS EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION OF NORTH AMERICA board of directors.
When I am not working and doing activities related to my profession as a Feldenkrais practitioner, I’m often engaged in some sort of movement related activity, whether that be running, hiking, canoeing, skiing, walking our two retrievers Kodiak and Akela…and most recently, I’ve begun the study of Yang style T’ai Chi Chuan. I love music – listening and playing. When time permits, I am a voracious reader.
Most significantly perhaps, I find myself deeply interested and engaged in the process of discovery – discovering the nature of mind, of what it is to be human, of how we can free ourselves from “the small ‘I’” all the while living a full and rich life with my husband and our dogs, as a home owner, business owner and engaged in the world of family and friends and chores and demands and work and media and society…
This deep interest and engagement is what led me to the Feldenkrais Method, and why I continue to be involved in practices such as meditation. Am I free of the “small I”? Very rarely, and, the journey has been, is and I am certain will continue to be one worth taking. Besides, what other choice is there? I can swim with, against, or across the current. Whichever I choose, the river still flows…
“Do whatever you do with less effort, especially the challenging activities, and look for aesthetically pleasing sensations within yourself.” “I can swim with, against, or across the current. Whichever I choose, the river still flows…”
Thanks for those comments. They are good for me to read tonight. Similar theme struck me in a book I read recently, so I think I need to learn this lesson.
